On June 14, 2010, Mr. Goldstein was sworn into the bar of the United States Supreme Court.
In November 2010, Mr. Goldstein obtained a grant of political asylum for a Sudanese professor who had been abducted and tortured by Sudanese government agents because of his criticism of the government's action in Darfur. After an attack by anti-government Darfur rebels near his home outside Khartoum in the spring of 2009, the client became politically active and began to discuss the Darfur situation in class with his students. The client then published an article in his college's newspaper that was critical of the Sudanese government's action in Darfur. After the article was published, the client was arrested, detained, and tortured for three weeks. The client escaped from detention, and then traveled to Egypt, and then the United States. As a result of the grant of asylum, the client will not be forced to return to Sudan where he would have faced further imprisonment and torture.
